Peter Tindemans

Peter Tindemans (PhD in Theoretical Physics; Leyden University) works, as Global Knowledge Strategies and Partnerships, in the area of science, technology and society. He is involved in discussions on European Science, Technology and Innovation Policies in general, and on Research Infrastructures in particular (through e.g. chairing the European Spallation Source efforts and a European Alliance for Permanent Access to the Records of Science to establish a European Digital Information Infrastructure). He is working with international organizations such as the World Bank and UNESCO and governments on STI policies in the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. He is working on regional innovation policies, and also engaged in efforts to achieve international consensus on science policy issues (e.g. Rapporteur-General of the 1999 UNESCO/ICSU World Conference on Science; the OECD/UK Conference on GM foods in 2000; the 1st International NIH/ESF/EU conference on Research Integrity on September 2007; the Portuguese EU Presidency conference on the Future of Science in Europe, in October 2007; or the report on the European Institute of Technology, commissioned by the European Parliament in 2006 to a team led by him). He is a member of the Governing Board of EUROSCIENCE.

Until 1999 he directed research and science policy in the Netherlands, chaired the OECD Megascience Forum and was highly involved (e.g. the EUREKA High Level Group, the preparation of EU Framework Programmes, chairing the COSINE Policy Group for a pan-european computer networking infrastructure in the 80-ies, etc) in policymaking in science, technology and innovation in Europe. Bilaterally, he initiated co-operation with a.o. Russia, Hungary, China and Indonesia.
