The day after the conference, on Thrusday 25th of March, a visit program to Research Spanish Infrastructures of interest in the area for Barcelona was offered to the conference delegates, including MareNostrum Supercomputer and ALBA Synchrotron. Both Infrastructures belongs to ICTS, developed by Spanish Government with autonomous regions, including 56 new installations next 2015.

MareNostrum supercomputer

MareNostrumBSC-CNS hosts MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputer in Europe and the number 77 in the world, according to the latest top500 list. In March 2004 the Spanish government and IBM signed an agreement to build one of the fastest computers in Europe. In November 2006 its capacity was increased due to the large demand of scientific projects. 


ALBA synchrotron

ALBA Synchrotron

ALBA is the new synchrotron located in Cerdanyola del Vallès, near Barcelona. It will be operative from June 2010. It is in the commissioning phase.

ALBA is a third generation synchrotron light facility. It is constructed and operated by the Consortium CELLS. It is a 3 GeV storage ring which it is expected to accept users since January 2011 for its seven initial beam lines.
